Egypt Launches Digital QR Code Visa at Cairo Airport

MISR VISA Team · 8/1/2026

Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities launched a pilot program on 1 August 2026, introducing a digital QR code visa-on-arrival system at Cairo International Airport.

The QR code replaces the traditional paper visa sticker and is valid for 48 hours from issuance. Paper visa stickers remain available during this testing phase.

The pilot currently covers Cairo Airport only, with expansion to other Egyptian airports planned in later phases.

What this means for travelers

  • Your Visa-on-Arrival may now be issued as a digital QR code rather than a sticker in your passport.
  • The QR code is generated before travel and is valid for 48 hours from the moment it is generated, so timing it correctly against your flight matters.
  • This applies to arrivals at Cairo International Airport. Other Egyptian airports are expected to follow in later phases.

MISR VISA assists eligible African travelers in preparing for the Visa-on-Arrival process, including getting the timing of a QR code right relative to your arrival. As always, approval and entry into Egypt are decided solely by Egyptian immigration authorities — MISR VISA is a private service provider, not an embassy or government body.
