Egypt changed how visitors receive their visa on arrival in 2026. The fee went up, the paper sticker disappeared at Cairo Airport, and a digital QR code took its place. If you are planning a trip to Cairo, this guide explains exactly what the Egypt visa on arrival costs today, what you need, and how travelers from Africa can board their flight without surprises.

How much is the Egypt visa on arrival in 2026?

On 1 March 2026 Egypt raised the single-entry visa-on-arrival fee from USD 25 to USD 30. At Cairo International Airport, where the visa is now issued as a QR code, the total is USD 36 per person: the USD 30 visa fee plus a USD 6 service charge, paid by card.

  • Visa fee: USD 30
  • Service charge: USD 6
  • Total at Cairo Airport: USD 36

Fees are set by the Egyptian authorities and can change. MISR VISA always confirms the current amount with you before you travel.

The new QR code visa at Cairo Airport

Since 1 August 2026, visas at Cairo International Airport are issued as a digital QR code instead of a sticker glued into your passport. The system applies across all arrival terminals in Cairo, including passengers who clear immigration in Cairo and then connect onward to another Egyptian city such as Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh or Luxor.

The official government portal for the visa on arrival is visaonarrival.gov.eg, and there is an official Visa on Arrival Egypt app. MISR VISA is a private assistance company: we help you prepare, secure airline OK-to-Board, and arrive ready — we are not a government office.

Egypt visa on arrival requirements

For MISR VISA travelers the checklist is refreshingly short:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date, with blank pages
  • Confirmed ticket to Cairo — we strongly recommend EgyptAir or Ethiopian Airlines
  • USD 36 for the QR visa on arrival
  • OK-to-Board confirmation where your airline requires it (we arrange this)

Depending on your nationality and travel purpose, immigration officers may ask for a hotel booking or proof of funds. Carry printed copies of your booking and return ticket.

What is OK-to-Board — and why it matters

Many African travelers are asked for OK-to-Board at check-in before flying to Egypt. It is a confirmation from the airline that the passenger is cleared to travel. Without it, you can be refused boarding even with a valid ticket. MISR VISA handles OK-to-Board for eligible travelers, typically in 24–48 hours. Read our full guide: OK-to-Board for Egypt.
