Egypt sits at the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East and Europe, with a population of more than 100 million people and the Suez Canal running through its territory. In recent years, large-scale projects have drawn the attention of investors from the Gulf, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Ras El-Hekma: a landmark deal
In February 2024, Egypt signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi's sovereign fund ADQ to develop Ras El-Hekma on the Mediterranean coast. Valued at about USD 35 billion, it was described as the largest foreign direct investment deal in Egypt's history, planned as a new city with tourism, residential and business districts.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone)
The Suez Canal is one of the world's most important trade routes. The Suez Canal Economic Zone, established in 2015, surrounds the canal with industrial areas and ports — including Ain Sokhna and East Port Said — offering manufacturers access to Europe, Africa and Asia.
The New Administrative Capital
East of Cairo, Egypt has built a New Administrative Capital, where government ministries began relocating in 2023. It includes a central business district, residential neighborhoods and major infrastructure.
